Section 15 - Unsafe Shooter Policy

Introduction

  1. UKPSA competitors wishing to take part in Sanctioned Matches (Level II and above) can only do so if they are both qualified and current for the specific match discipline they wish to compete in. Qualification is achieved by way of successfully completing a UKPSA Safety Course in either Long Gun or Short Gun Platforms and currency is maintained by successfully competing in at least one recognised competition in a rolling 24 month period. UKPSA Competitors who meet both these criteria will hold a valid UKPSA Competition Licence.
  2. A UKPSA Competitor who is repeatedly disqualified whilst competing in recognised competition may be subject to the Unsafe Shooter Policy

Policy

  1. A competitor who is disqualified on 2 occasions whilst competing with the same category of platform (Long Gun or Short Gun) during a rolling 12 month period will have their Competition Licence suspended for that category of Platform.

Process

  1. The NROI Committee are responsible for monitoring match reports from the Range Masters overseeing recognised matches to maintain a record of any UKPSA Competitor who has received a disqualification. When an individual triggers the Unsafe Shooter Policy, they are to inform the Chair of the UTC.
  2. The Chair of the UTC is responsible for notifying the individual concerned and the Membership Secretary that their Competition Licence has been suspended following the triggering of the Unsafe Shooter Policy. The Chair of the UTC will then, in consultation with the UTC, scrutinise the circumstances of each disqualification and tailor an appropriate remedial action plan for the individual.
  3. The individual competitor is responsible for engaging with the UTC to satisfactorily complete the necessary training and/or assessment specified by the UTC in their remedial action plan.
  4. Once the individual has satisfactorily completed the additional training and/or assessment specified by the UTC, their Competition Licence will be re-instated.
  5. The rolling 12 month period begins on the day of the disqualification which triggered the Unsafe Shooter Policy.
  6. An individual who regains their Competition Licence and goes on to be disqualified again within 12 months of the disqualification which initially triggered the Unsafe Shooter Policy, for the same category of Platform (Long Gun or Short Gun), will again have their Competition Licence suspended. The UTC will again tailor an appropriate remedial action plan that the competitor must satisfactorily complete in order to regain their Competition Licence.
