Section 11 - Diversity and Inclusion Policy

Introduction

  1. The United Kingdom Practical Shooting Association is committed to the principle of equality of opportunity and aims to ensure that all members of the Association are treated fairly and on an equal basis. We recognise that stakeholders, participants, members, athletes and volunteers bring a unique value to our shooting community and that we must embrace our diversity of skills, experience, insights, perspectives and innovative ideas to act as a catalyst for positive change and drive our passion for excellence in all areas of practical shooting.

Strategic plan

  1. Diversity and inclusion are key elements of our strategy and these actions form part of our Vision Document. Our Diversity Action Plan complements the work of our operational plans which are driven from our Purpose and Strategy. The key elements of this are seen in:
    • Growing participation – improve access and opportunities for all shooters and underrepresented groups.
    • Become a high performing organisation – recognise and promote equality, diversity and inclusion in compliance with the equality act.
    • Strengthening governance – recruit the right people with the right skills.

Commitment

  1. Our goal at the UKPSA is to bring dynamic shooting and marksmanship to all those who want to take part in our sport. Our values that underpin this work are vital to achieving that goal. These are:
    • Unity – We pride ourselves on inclusivity and diversity and are committed to working in partnership within our organisation and with others.
    • Integrity – We accept personal responsibility for all of our actions and always act with transparency, honesty, and trust.
    • Excellence – We are passionate about winning and are determined to be the very best at everything we do by pursuing innovation and continuous improvement.
A more diverse shooting community will help us in every aspect of this work.

Council diversity

  1. The UKPSA council is made up of 5 nominated, elected and independent members plus a number of appointed positions. We believe that the leadership of council focuses on growing our sport for the whole community, expanding this community for all groups. Lack of tolerance is not accepted by council on any level. We want to continue to develop a truly open sport which is representative of our members, and have them represented on a council that has a clear understanding of our role, scope of responsibilities and expected contribution to the long-term success of UKPSA.

Communications

  1. We want to ensure that the UKPSA’s commitment to diversity is communicated effectively using both internal and external channels. This will include communication of the new UKPSA Diversity Policy, “Promote Tolerance, Celebrate Diversity” across the Association as well as to key stakeholders and partners. This policy will look to promote diversity throughout the sport and ensure that no group feels unsupported in terms of education programmes and shooting initiatives.

Monitoring

  1. We will measure the progress of our activities through the delivery of our operational plans and via our employee and athlete satisfaction in our regular satisfaction survey as part of the monitoring of the Vision 2026 project.
