What is IPSC

International Practical Shooting Confederation

The International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC) is the global authority for practical shooting sports, established in 1976. With its motto, Diligentia, Vis, Celeritas—Accuracy, Power, Speed—IPSC emphasizes a unique combination of precision, power, and speed in its competitions. Today, IPSC spans over 100 member regions worldwide, making it one of the fastest-growing and most dynamic shooting sports.

IPSC competitions are renowned for their challenging and diverse courses of fire. Shooters face multiple targets, moving and reactive targets, penalty targets, and complex stage designs that include obstacles and movement. Each stage allows competitors the freedom to choose their own strategies to navigate the course, testing not only their marksmanship but also their adaptability, planning, and problem-solving skills. This variety ensures that no two courses are alike, keeping the sport engaging and demanding.

The sport encompasses multiple disciplines, including Handgun, Rifle, Shotgun, and Action Air, catering to a wide range of shooting preferences and skillsets. These disciplines are designed to challenge participants of all levels, from local club competitors to elite athletes on the world stage.

The value of IPSC shooting competition is determined by the quality of the challenge presented in the course design. Courses of fire are designed primarily to test a competitor’s IPSC shooting skills, and not their physical strength or gymnastic abilities.

IPSC shooting competitions present varied degrees of difficulty. No shooting challenge or time limit may be protested as being prohibitive. Specific requirements for non-shooting challenges should reasonably allow for differences in competitor’s height and physical build.
