As an association the UKPSA promotes dynamic shooting and is acknowledged as the National Governing Body for the sport by the Home Office and Police Forces. We aim to promote all dynamic shooting and work closely with other National Governing Bodies to influence government and public perceptions of shooting as a sport.
We are currently working with several Police Forces to develop their understanding of Practical shooting and the types of firearms we use. We are also engaging with the Government on the lead ban, with more information to follow soon on how our members can support these efforts.
Being a governing body comes with obligations in the way we promote the sport and conduct ourselves. Our members are subject to our Code of Conduct and the UKPSA policies (which include social media, giving of grants and overseas participation). Details of all our policies are available on our website.
On the range and at national and international competitions our dedicated Range Officers not only uphold the IPSC rules but also ensure a high standard of sportsmanship is displayed by competitors. All our Range Officers and instructors have recently completed a full DBS check and Safeguarding training to ensure we provide a safe and welcoming environment.
All IPSC competitors are expected to behave in a sportsman like manner, but we hold those who would represent our country overseas to an even higher standard of behaviour. All members of the national squads for any Level 4 (Continental) or Level 5 (World) competitions are required to sign a competitor’s contract. This is designed to ensure they present our Country, our Sport and themselves in the best possible light. Recently a member of the Mini Rifle World Shoot squad was removed following the posting of a racist meme on a squad chat. We have also required one individual to carry out diversity and inclusion training following a Facebook post that was deemed to be inappropriate.
I include these examples not to embarrass the individuals, but to show how seriously this council takes the behaviour of our Council members, Range Officers, Competitors and Members. We need to be clear, anybody who exhibits behaviour that is detrimental to the sport will be sanctioned by the Association.
