Approval for Long Barrelled Handgun Level 3 competitions in Great Britain Under IPSC Rules

In a landmark decision, the UKPSA (United Kingdom Practical Shooting Association) has received IPSC Presidential and IPSC Executive committee approval to adopt the .22 IPSC (International Practical Shooting Confederation) Handgun rules for the Great Britain region for level 3 competitions. This development marks a significant step forward for Long barrelled Handgun competitors in Great Britain, allowing for a return to the highest level of competitive handgun shooting within the bounds of current legal restrictions.

The approval follows extensive collaboration between the UKPSA RD (Kevin Strowger), the NROI (National Range Officers Institute) president (Martyn Spence), and the IPSC rules chairman (Bob Chittleborough). A formal proposal was submitted by the Regional Director to the IPSC president and Executive Council, which has now been granted, paving the way for competitive Long Barrelled Handgun shooting under IPSC rules in Great Britain.

This decision means that competitors in Great Britain can now participate in Level 3 matches, with full-recognised categories and awards, including Regional Director (RD) medals. The only exceptions are Super Junior and Junior categories, where participants will receive IPSC Presidential medals if there are enough competitors (Five) in those divisions.

In practical terms, this allows competitors to compete in Long Barrel Pistol (LBP) divisions under IPSC .22 Handgun rules for level 3 and level 2 competitions. This flexibility opens up new opportunities for competitive shooting, bringing Great Britain back in line with international standards while adhering to GB national legislation.
